Hasselblad 500CM and Ilford HP5+ film
I like analog. I’ve got a Hasselblad, a Yashicamat, a rickety 4×5 field camera, and a Polaroid SX-70.
I shoot almost exclusively in black and white and develop my own film. I scan my negatives with a Nikon Coolscan 9000 (medium format) or Epson 4990 Pro (large format) scanner, edit in Photoshop on a Mac, and produce digital negatives with an Epson R2400. I am hoping to find enough room for an Epson 3800 or other 17″ wide inkjet sometime soon.
I have just begun printing in platinum and palladium. If you are interested in printing with alternative processes using digitally generated negatives, I highly recommend Mark I. Nelson’s Precision Digital Negative system. I struggled with digital negatives for months until I started using PDN. After just a few days of calibration and testing, I’ve been able to develop a spot on and repeatable printing workflow.
The “Taking a Picture” series on the weblog gives a pretty good idea of how I use all of this stuff. Any other questions? Get in touch.
